A Better Future for Our Seniors

Proposed Enhancements to Senior Services in Dumfries, Virginia
Our seniors helped build our community. They deserve a community that supports them in return.
As Dumfries continues to grow, we must ensure that our older residents are not left behind. Seniors should have access to the resources, services, and opportunities they need to live with dignity, remain independent, and stay connected to the community they helped build.
My goal is to work toward practical, financially responsible improvements that address the needs of older adults while respecting the taxpayers who fund our local government.
These are proposed future enhancements that I would work to evaluate, develop, and advance in collaboration with residents, Town Council, Prince William County, and community service organizations.
1

Explore Property Tax Relief for Eligible Seniors

For older adults living on fixed incomes, rising housing costs can make it increasingly difficult to remain in their homes. I would advocate for a review of available options to help qualifying senior homeowners manage their local tax burden.
Our objective
Help eligible seniors remain in their homes while balancing the needs of residents with the town's responsibility to manage public revenue carefully.
2

Improve Transportation Access for Seniors

Lack of reliable transportation can prevent older residents from attending medical appointments, obtaining prescriptions, purchasing groceries, and participating in community activities. I would explore opportunities to expand transportation options through partnerships with Prince William County and existing transportation providers.
Our objective
Help seniors maintain independence and access essential services, regardless of whether they drive.
3

Establish a Senior Home Safety and Repair Assistance Program

A small home repair can make a significant difference in an older resident's ability to remain safely at home. I would explore a program providing limited financial assistance to eligible seniors for essential safety improvements.
Our objective
Help prevent avoidable safety hazards and support aging in place, with clear eligibility requirements and responsible spending limits.
4

Expand Access to Meals and Food Assistance

No senior should have to choose between purchasing groceries and paying for essential household expenses. I would work with existing food assistance organizations, Prince William County, and community partners to identify gaps in services for older Dumfries residents.
Our objective
Improve access to nutritious food while building on services that already exist.
5

Strengthen Senior Recreation, Wellness, and Social Connection

A strong community gives older residents opportunities to remain active, build friendships, learn new skills, and participate in civic life. I would support evaluating affordable ways to expand senior activities through existing town facilities and community partnerships.
Our objective
Reduce social isolation and create more opportunities for older residents to remain engaged in Dumfries.
6

Strengthen Support for Caregivers and Residents Living With Dementia

Family caregivers provide essential support to many older adults, often while balancing employment and their own family responsibilities. Building on existing community efforts, including Dementia Friendly Dumfries, I would support stronger connections between caregivers, local government, and organizations providing specialized services.
Our objective
Help caregivers find support and make Dumfries a more informed, welcoming community for residents experiencing cognitive decline.
